A LAN (Local Area Network) allows a number of computers to be exclusively connected within a small range area, such as an office or classroom. The connection uses core switches, which are connected to the workstations and the router or modem. A LAN is faster than a normal telephone line. A LAN extension increases the number of workstations that can be attached to the network.
From a business perspective, a LAN extension means any number of people within the organisation can share devices such as printers, but can also easily maintain contact with each other.
